Peace and conflict resolution

Indigenous-Led Peace in Turkana.

In Turkana, peace is both fragile and vital. Communities regularly face conflict triggered by resource scarcity, cattle raids, political tensions, and cross-border insecurity.
These conflicts disrupt lives, hinder development, and threaten Indigenous traditions of coexistence. At TIPD Kenya, we believe that sustainable peace must be community-driven, inclusive, and culturally rooted.
We work across borders, clans, and generations to build systems of trust, dialogue, and early response that prevent violence and foster long-term harmony. What we do Community Dialogue & Mediation
We facilitate forums where elders, women, youth, and local leaders resolve disputes through traditional and modern methods of peacebuilding. Cross-Border Peace Initiatives
We coordinate peace caravans and cultural exchanges with communities in South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia to promote regional stability. Youth Peace Ambassadors
We train and support young people to serve as peacebuilders in their communities, using digital tools, art, and civic education. Early Warning & Response Systems
We strengthen community-led conflict monitoring and connect them with county security teams to act before violence escalates. Women in Peacebuilding
We empower women — often overlooked in traditional peace processes — to take active roles in negotiation, advocacy, and trauma healing.

Why it matters.

Lasting peace is the foundation for development. Without it: Livelihoods Are Lost – Families lose their means of survival as traditional sources of income become unsustainable due to climate impacts. Children Miss Education – School attendance drops as children are forced to work, migrate, or face disrupted learning environments. Communities Flee Their Homes – Climate-related disasters and resource scarcity force people to abandon ancestral lands in search of safety and stability. Fear Replaces Hope – Uncertainty and repeated crises lead to anxiety, despair, and loss of optimism about the future.
